Nicholas DiCello, President and CEO of Ohio State Waterproofing, was named among Northeast Ohio’s leading entrepreneurs, as recipient of the Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year award 2009. DiCello received the award at the program event on June 10, 2009, at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland.

Now entering its 23rd year, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year is the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs. Recognized globally, the award honors the most outstanding entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.

DiCello was among 28 award finalists selected for consideration for this year’s award; he was chosen as the winner in the Home Improvements business category. “This year’s finalists went through a rigorous judging process and met with the program’s independent panel of judges for a thorough assessment of their company’s recent financial performance, strategic direction, and their product or service innovation,” said Mike Mazzeo, executive director with Ernst & Young and program director for the Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year Northeast Ohio program. In addition, each nominee’s leadership qualities, including personal integrity, values, key employee initiatives and community involvement were considered.

DiCello is a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio and a graduate of Ohio University. In 1978, he was working for a New York-based basement waterproofer when the company abruptly exited the business. With about $200 in his checking account, DiCello recruited a few key people from the business, secured the support of local vendors (who stood to not get paid by the exiting business) and founded Ohio State Waterproofing. DiCello started off on the right foot, making the vendors whole on the prior company’s obligation. Today, 31 years later, most of those key employees he persuaded to stay on are still with the Company and those vendors have become longtime partners. Ohio State Waterproofing is now the top waterproofing services company in Northeast Ohio and has expanded with 14 franchises throughout the United States.

Ohio State Homes Services now offers customers a new level of security in their homes with the introduction of the EverSafe Emergency Pump Systems.

The two EverSafe pump models provide unmatched reliability, as they protect the home in the event of a power outage and eliminate the worries associated with pump failure.

“We’ve been researching the battery backup market for the last ten years or more,” said Carl Moore. “There’s always been a market for these products, but until now, there haven’t been any backup systems that lived up to our expectations.”

The result of Ohio State Homes Services’ rigorous R&D effort is two units that perform well in a variety of circumstances. The first, the EverSafe Model 2000, is a true battery backup system that takes over when the primary pump fails, or power goes out. It pumps an impressive amount of water, and lasts up to three days on battery power alone.

The EverSafe Model 3000 is a powerful battery backup system that works both as a primary or backup system. Made of cast iron and stainless steel, the unit pumps over 2500 gallons per hour and can last up to eight days without power. It features a built-in alarm and can run on AC or battery power. “This system is designed for people who want the added security of one of the most powerful backup systems available in the marketplace,” Moore said. “It is a great alternative for homeowners with finished space in their basement, who want to make sure they have coverage in case power goes out for an extended period of time.”

Both units are now available to Ohio State customers as an upgrade.

Dear Nick,

On behalf of our trustees, staff, and most importantly, the children whom we serve, I want to thank you very much for your commitment and dedication to the kids of Beech Brook. For the past 10 years, you and your team have brought smiles to so many of our children by your generous Christams gifts and party. The kids start asking us in the fall if St. Nick and his team are going to be visiting again during the Holidays and I am so pleased that you have made this a part of your Christmas tradition.

Your thoughtfulness shows that you believe, as we do, that children are a precious resource, for it is within them that our future lies.

Thank you again for selecting Beech Brook and our kids as a charitable organization worthy of your time and support. I look forward to continuing the wonderful relationship that has developed between our two organizations.

Best wishes for a successful 2004.

Sincerely,

Debra Rex
President and CEO
